New COVID-19 and Sexual and Reproductive Health 'Microtraining' Course for Frontline Health Workers

At the request of the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Guatemala, TulaHealth designed and delivered a highly innovative 'microtraining' course on COVID-19 prevention, treatment, and management for frontline health workers using digital messaging platform WhatsApp. WhatsApp is used almost daily by health workers in Guatemala and we wanted to make it as easy as possible to share MOH-approved COVID-19 protocols to those on the frontlines. 'Microtraining' supports quick and effective training and minimizes the need for face-to-face contact.

Because the response to the course was so positive, UN organizations in Guatemala City joined us in designing content for our next 'microtraining' course with the MOH focusing on COVID-19 and sexual and reproductive health (SRH). Nearly 5,000 health workers and professionals registered to participate in the SRH 'microtraining' course. Interestingly enough, 65% of participants self-identified as indigenous and approximately two-thirds of all participants were women. At the request of the MOH, we are now preparing to deliver a second cohort of the SRH 'microtraining' course.
