Tula Integrates COVID-19 Data with WHO’s Global Outbreak and Response Software

Since May 11 2021, frontline health workers in rural Guatemala have been able to spend less time filling out paperwork and more time looking after patients with the coronavirus (COVID-19). Thanks to a collaboration between the Ministry of Health (MoH), Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO), Dimagi and Tula, care and follow-up of patients with COVID-19 and their contacts in Guatemala are now being tracked digitally through Kawok on their cell phones instead of paper forms. MoH frontline health workers in rural communities can now enter information on COVID-19 patients and it will integrate seamlessly with the World Health Organization (WHO) outbreak and response software adopted by Guatemala's MoH for tracking the pandemic.

Kawok will complement the MoH online platform by operating as a mobile application capable of working offline when frontline workers travel to remote communities. Frontline workers will be able to spend less time filling out paper forms; health centers will have seamless access to data; less paper will be shuttled back and forth from remote areas to rural towns; and frontline workers will be able to spend more time providing care for those suffering from COVID-19.
