We are pleased to announce that our partners at Global Affairs Canada (GAC) have agreed to contribute $6M to support TulaHealth's Empowering Indigenous Adolescents & Women for Equitable Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights (SRHR) project. The Adolescent SRHR project addresses high rates of adolescent pregnancies and maternal mortality amongst vulnerable Indigenous women and girls in rural communities in Guatemala by improving their access to essential sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. Working alongside the Ministry of Health (MOH) in Guatemala, the project takes advantage of TulaHealth's digital health ecosystem - which already connects more than 4,300 frontline health workers via a smartphone network - to expand health services further into remote communities.
Project activities will support the: 1) Delivery of health education training programs for frontline health workers and midwives; 2) Enhanced delivery of SRH services - such as adolescent 'friendly spaces' and teleconsultations - in local Mayan Indigenous languages using the digital health ecosystem; and, 3) Collection and dissemination of community-level health data to support collaborative community health action plans.
The Adolescents SRHR project will be implemented over five years in the regions of Alta Verapaz, El Quiché, Huehuetenango, and Sololá, and will benefit the health of approximately 3.7 million people.
